Determination of The Activity of Alpha Naphthyl Acetate Esterase and Acid Phosphatase of Peripheral Blood Lymphocytes in Healty Pregnant Cattle

This study was performed to determine the effects of pregnancy on the activities of alpha naphthyl acetate esterase (ANAE) and acid phosphatase (ACP-ase) of the peripheral blood lymphocytes in pregnant cattle. Peripheral blood lymphocyte percentages were also estimated. These animals divided into four groups as Control; Trimester I; Trimester II and Trimester III (n= 20 for each group). There was a statistically decreases in the proportions of the ACP-ase (+) lymphocytes in Trimester I and Trimester III. The lowest ANAE (+) T-lymphocytes percentage was determined in Trimester I but the differences between the groups were not statistically important. A dramatic reduction in the percentage of peripheral blood lymphphocytes was recorded in Trimester I (p<0,05) whereas the highest null cell rates were found at the same period. It was concluded that the pregnancy effects the peripheral blood lymphocytes in cattle especially Trimester I.

Serologic prevalance of Salmonella enterica serovar Abortusovis infection in Sheep and Rams from some flocks in the Province Konya

Salmonella enterica serovar Abortusovis (S. Abortusovis), a Salmonella serovar host-adapted to sheep which causes infectious disease, with abortion as the main symptom. Slow Micro-Agglutination Technique (YMAT) is the reference method for indirect diagnosis of Salmonella enterica Serovar abortusovis. A total of 200 blood serum samples collected from 15 flocks were examined by YMAT to determine the frequency of the disease in the flocks from province Konya. Of the sera, 5 (2.5%) were positive and 195 (97.5%) negative. Sero-positivities for the sheep and rams from province Konya were 3% and 2%, respectively. It is concluded that Salmonella enterica Serovar abortusovis infection is stil endemic in the province Konya.

Evaluation of frontlimb flexor tendinitis in horses by ultrasonographic examination

In this study, the normal and abnormal proportions of the flexor tendons of forelimbs of healty and tendinitis throughbred horses were measured ultrasonographically. Dimensions, circumferences and cross-sectional areas of the superficial digital flexor tendon (SDFT), deep digital flexor tendon (DDFT), check ligament (CL) and suspensory ligament (SL) were measured. The determination of the physiological boundaries of those tendons were aimed. The horse which are used in the study are 2-4 years old, in healty 19 and 6 horses with tendinitis throughbreds these measurements were applicated. Throughbred english horse area 2 for circumferences values of the MFDS were 0.869 + 0.453 cm² , MFDD values were 1,062 + 0.510 cm² , IC values were 1,324 + 0.647 cm² and the horses with tendinitis values of the MFDS (0.625 + 0.181), MFDD (0.830 + 0.285) and LA (0.687 + 0.220) cm² were estimated. There are no differences between two groups by statistically. Area 2 for lenght values of the MFDS were 1.615 + 0.649 cm, MFDD values were 1.698 + 0.600 cm, IC values were 2.078 + 0.665 cm, the horses with tendinitis values of the MFDS (1.213 + 0.335) cm, MFDD (1.303 + 0.160), ve LA (1.413 + 0.349) cm were evaluated. Especially, MFDD tendon and LA tendon show statistically differences between compared to normal one concern about lenght of tendon. As a conclusion, healty thoroughbred English horses and horses with tendinitis of flexor tendons of forelimbs were determined of morphometric measurements by ultrasonographically. The standard measurements were compared to tendinitis group and other breeds.

Evaluation Of Gastric Emptying Rates Of Nondigestible Radiopaque Markers Of Different Gastropexy Methods In The Dogs

Gastric dilatation and volvulus is acute and often fatal disease syndrome of uncertain aetiology that requires rapid medical and surgical intervention. In the study, to document gastric emptying using modified nondigestible radiopaque markers, some blood count and serum chemistry in dogs after modified circumcostal gastropexy, ventral midline gastropexy, incisional gastropexy and beltloop gastropexy.Twenty-four skeletally mature dogs of unselected breed, ages and sex, weighing between 15+5 kg were used. The dogs are divided four groups (circumcostal gastropexy, ventral midline gastropexy, belt-loop gastropexy, incisional gastropexy) and each group consist of six dogs. 10 pieces of 0.5 cm width and 0.7 cm lenght radiopaque markers which were prepared from enteral capsules, were swallowed during feeding by the dogs. Radiopaque markers when reach to stomach were controlled by radiologic examination. Gastric emptying was delayed 3 days after circumcostal gastropexy and ventral midline gastropexy, and there weren't any changes after incisional gastropexy and belt-loop gastropexy performed when the animals start to fed with solid meals. Dogs subjected to circumcostal gastropexy, ventral midline gastropexy, incisional gastropexy and belt-loop gastropexy had 100 % gastric emptying times similar to those of control dogs 10 days and 21 days after both surgery.Modified circumcostal gastropexy, ventral midline gastropexy, incisional gastropexy and belt-loop gastropexy are technically simple and quick. All of these technics could be suggested for approaching of both surgical and prophylactic purposes.

Investigation of Relationships Between Biochemical Polymorphism and Some Production Charecters on Local Breeds and Cross Breeds of Sheep in Konya Central Animal Research Institute

In the study to determine the genetic structure of local breeds and cross breeds of sheep, three different enzyme loci; carbonic anhydrase (CA1), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and esterase D (EsD) were examined by starch gel electrophoresis. In the present study, the red cell enzymes of 375 local breeds and cross breeds of sheep from Konya Central Animal Research Institute were used. For each of the enzyme systems appropriate buffers and chemical for the activity staining were used in accordance with the information given in the literature. The observed bands of the izoenzymes were analysed. For the enzyme loci Ca1, Sod, Esd neither the individuals of local breeds of sheep nor the individuals of cross breeds of sheep exhibited any variation. They displayed identical bands and they were all homozygotes. This study explained that three enzyme systems exhibited monomorphic. It seem that, with respect to the loci studied, cross breeds of sheep do not differ from the local breeds of sheep.

Pathological and microbiological investigations on the lesions of the respiratory systems of laying hens

The present study was intended to investigate pathologically and microbiologically all organs of the respiratory systems of chickens taken from flocks in laying hens enterprises in and around Konya that had respiratory system problems and to reveal the distribution of lesions in the relevant system, their characteristics and their connection with the microbiological results. For the study, 192 chickens were taken from 33 coops and necropsies were conducted on them. In histopathological examination, lesions in epithelium and propria were separately scored as mild (+), medium (++) and severe (+++).It was found that macroscopic findings were common findings that could be encountered in all infections of the respiratory system, and the whitish foci as big as a pinhead in the mucuous membranes indicated severe lymphoid cell infiltration in propria and lymphoid hyperplasia. It was thought that the caseous masses encountered in the lumens of the examined organs could be related with infections of Mycoplasma gallisepticum and E.coli. It was the lung from which the infectious agents (n: 43) isolated mostly and S. aureus (n: 50) was the causative that isolated most frquently, taken together it was considered that to diagnose such infections in the laboratory immunoperoxidase and molecular techniques along with pathological and microbiological examinations should be made use of.

Findings of Some Biochemical and Haematological in Cows with Hypophosphatemia and Effect of Phosphorous in Treatment

The purpose of this study was to determine change of some biochemical and haematological parameters in cows with hypophosphatemia, and to detect effect of phosphorous in treatment of disease. 19 cows with hypophosphatemia were used as material in this study. Phosphorus treatment was performed to animals. The serum phosphorus concentrations in the cows were very low (2.61 mg/dl), after phosphorus treatment, while serum phosphorus level in the cows was reached to normal range (5.74 mg/dl) limit. The TP (P<0.05), ALT (P<0.005), Fe (P<0.05), RBC (P<0.005), PCV (P<0.005) and Hb (P<0.05) levels did show difference before and after treatment, but this values were within normal range limits. In conclusion, blood phosphorus level under 1.5 mg/dl could be develop of postparturient haemoglobinuria and anemia in the cows, blood phosphorus level under 2.5 mg/dl might be observed symptoms of anorexia, decraese of milk production and light weakness in the cows. Effective of phosphorous apply in treatment of disease was determined.
